Collective Bargaining  is the mutually beneficial process whereby labor and management negotiate a binding Agreement (or Contract) covering all terms, conditions, benefits, and compensation regarding employment.  Florida is one of the few former slave states to have fully binding collective bargaining statutes for public employees.

Our Bargaining Committee relies on input from the employee unit in the form of a bargaining survey that is issued every year or two years.  In this survey, and through personal conversations with employees, the union fulfills its obligation to bargain collectively on behalf of all unit employees.  Management, on the other hand, represents the interest of the administration and legally bargains on behalf of the University Board of Trustees.

The ultimate arbiter of most contract issues is the state legislature.  As in all state public employee contracts, the laws passed by the state and federal government sever any agreements made between management and labor.
