Re: Step 2 Grievance Procedure

Dear President Young,

Concerning the recent pay grievance by Graduate Assistants United, we do not feel the issue was resolved by the Associate Dean of the Graduate School. Following protocol established in Section 11.11(a) of the BOR-GAU Collective Bargaining Agreement (1999-2001), we request a review of the Step 1 decision by you or your representative. Find enclosed a set of replies and counter-arguments to Professor Gerhardt's decision, as well as the initial arguments and grievance forms. These are documents of record for the grievance process.

To clarify the time protocol on our meeting and your decision, we have excerpted the relevant language:

11.11(b) The President, or his/her representative, shall meet with the UFF grievance representative within ten (10) days after receipt of the request at Step 2 and shall issue a written decision to the grievant and the grievant's representative, if any, within ten (10) days following the meeting.

We look forward to meeting with you or your representative in the next ten days. Work and class schedules, however, prohibit our meeting during the following times: 8-12am MWF, 1-5pm TTh, 8-10:30am TTh. We may be contacted at the above phone numbers to schedule an appointment.

Sincerely,

James Thompson
Co-President
