University of Florida Postdoctoral Association (UFPDA)

Whether the University of Florida classifies you as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Postdoctoral Associate, OPS, Visiting Scientist or under any other title, if you consider yourself a postdoc, this association is here to provide you with a link to other postdocs, forums for discussion and a means for representation at a university-wide level.

The organization is still in its infancy (we had our first meeting on January 28, 2003) but we are hoping to develop more resources for postdocs and a stronger voice within the University of Florida.  If you would like to contribute or raise your own issues, please contact any of the people below, email the list or come along to meetings.

Below is a list of current resources, social functions and contact information.

Listserv:

The purpose of the listserv is to facilitate communication between Postdoctoral scholars at UF, to disseminate relevant information, and to post organizational notices.  If you have trouble subscribing, please contact Tamara Shatar.

Subscribe to the list at  http://lists.ufgau.org/listinfo.cgi/postdocs-ufgau.org.

Future Projects:

Survey:  Plans are underway to conduct an on-line survey of UF postdocs to find out how people feel about their postdoc experience here at UF and to identify areas where change is desirable.

The results of a survey of postdocs conducted in 1997 can be founding by clicking here.

Note that the term postdoctoral fellow seems to be applied to Postdoctoral Fellows and Postdoctoral Associates and presumably did not include those hired as OPS.  Many of the points raised and recommendations are similar to those raised by our group.  However, in the past six years, it appears that little if anything has been done to act upon them.

The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Postdoctoral Association has posted the results of their postdoctoral survey, click here to view the results.

Web-site:  We are looking into obtaining our own domain name in order to develop a more comprehensive web-site.  So far, the University has rejected our request for the domain www.postdoc.ufl.edu If you would like to make contributions to the web-site, please email the web coordinator, Tom Bishop.
