The current Grievance Officer is Matt Mingus.
GAU exists because graduate assistants like yourself volunteer their time to serve as officers and stewards, recruit new members, negotiate the contract, and attend meetings and events. It is important for you to get involved, and there are a number of ways you can do so. There are a number of officer positions: Co-Presidents, Grievance Officer, Treasurer, and Coordinator. And there are a number of appointed positions: Bargaining Chair, International Chair, Organizing Chair, Publications Chair, and Chief Steward. If you do not want to be an officer, you can serve as the steward for your department. Stewards act as communication liaisons between the GAU executive committee and graduate assistants in the various departments. You can also help organize office visits or put together a pizza party with GAs in your department.
If you’re interested in getting involved, please come to one of our general membership meetings or send us an email, organizing@ufgau.org
