Current GatorGrad Care Issues
The University of Florida Board of Trustee's first proposal on health care represents a substantial departure from the security we currently enjoy as hardworking members of the UF family.
If enacted, each Graduate Assistant would have to pay $300 before receiving health benefits, and routine check-ups with specialists and routine tests (e.g. lab work or X-rays) would increase by 50%, reducing the amount of money GAs have to pay for food or rent.
Furthermore, GAs would incur unbearable costs if they happen to fall seriously ill or have a serious accident. These costs could be so great as to force these GAs to abandon their graduate careers altogether to seek public assistance not available in the state of Florida.
GAU remains committed to improving our health insurance plan and opposing attempts to weaken it.
Next bargaining is scheduled for Monday March 13th at 3:30pm at Pugh Hall.
Sessions are open to the public, that anyone may attend.
