c. Chief steward—Hugh
Updating bulliton boards & contacting members to create institutional
memory

Reorganizing stewards
30 steward in 26 depts.
3 quit due to time, 2 due to "bad discourse"

d. Bargaining—James
Contract gains [handout]
Unit members ratify agreement 178 to 0
19 to 0 at USF
FAMU 52 to 0
(one third of unit)
Health benefits—after going to impasse last year, we won language at
Special Master's hearing
legislative committee gave BOR last, best offer
That meant spending four or five thousand dollars to go to impasse for
the same result
Gained lost language from last year
Agreement is online
"We should exercise these gains, including leave of absence"
Lobbying April 9-11 at Tallahassee
Cynthia and Patrick are going

e. Publications—Aline
James and Erika have helped w/ Publications
Flyers for health care, bargaining, stipends, the legislature, day of
action, discount partners, and happy hour
Newsletter went out early this semester

g. Grievance—palmer
Lots of inquiries, and lots of "backing down" when the Grievance Officer
starts the process.
1. Some foreign TAs failed to pass ESL test; unable to teach
Dept. wanted them to teach three classes
2. art dept. promised raise to all TAs, then gave it only to new ones.
The department backed down.
3. Theatre
Costume tech ta made to take a course as added work
This was not pursued, since work and classes are hard to separate in
depts. with labs

g. Organizing –Chris
Single taskers are getting organized
Two tabling events
Tables for ratification
Party last fall--oyster roast
Thinking about a cookout or potluck on campus

Treasury: re. budget, stewards funds, afl-cio dues (contained in the
total
balance). Why are regular dues installments smaller?
Grievance officer: re art department
President: re. release time workers: criteria, accountability, to whom
do they report.
Answer--Overseen by co-presidents: Log of hours, e-mail reports,
alumni (Harvey and
Tripp) were to set up criteria, but they got busy

V. Old Business—Proposal to give balance of GAU funds to Labor Party
Moved and seconded to take this off the table
Discussion: Level of stewards fund and executive spending during the
meeting

Discussion: Giving the money to our own Health Care Committee
Question called
Motion to give GAU funds to Labor Party's "Just Health Care" fails.

b. Electronic list format
Discussion: disbanding the gau-l list: getting a moderator, so that
serious proposals, criticisms and problems are highlighted, moving lists
to a private server
Motion to bar personal attacks from the listserv, no second
Motion to make all business save bargaining (all reports) on the gau-l
list
Discussion: How much e-mail members want, anyone can subscribe to the
officer's list.
Call to question: 5 aye, 15 nay
Motion fails.
