As of Thursday, February 15th, voting ended with a final tally of 176-0 in favor of ratifying the new contract! See below for details on the procedure followed.
After nearly a year of intense negotiations, including an assault on GA health benefits and misleading offers for salary minimums and raises from the University, we are pleased to announce that we won several notable items for the new contract. We also understand you may have some questions as to what this means to you as a graduate assistant...
SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
UF GAU has compiled the previously agreed upon articles of the CBA after checking for accuracy to ensure that language that we have won is not left out or altered. The UF Board of Trustees (BOT) ratified the agreement in December. UF GAU will next hold a ratification vote, and if a simple "Yes" majority is reached the changes in the contract will be implemented.
WHEN IS RATIFICATION AND WHO CAN VOTE?
We will be tabling on-campus on Wednesday, February 14th from 12-4pm at Reitz Union and the College of Medicine, and on Thursday, February 15th from 10am-2pm at Plaza of the Americas and Corry Village. ALL GRADUATE ASSISTANTS, regardless of GAU membership, are encouraged to vote. If you are not in Gainesville, you may print a ballot to mail to GAU.
WHAT IS IN THE NEW CONTRACT ANYWAYS?
GAU has provided comprehensive but easy to understand summaries to any changes made to any of the 26 articles. These summaries are now available HERE. We'd like to highlight some of the major changes:
