UF Undergraduates- tell UF administration your TA should be able to afford food and shelter!
Usually, your TAs are ready to help you with your coursework, but this time we need your help. UF is only required to pay teaching assistants a minimum of $21,333 per year. This is not enough for UF TAs to survive on. A recent survey of UF graduate assistants found the following:
With the rate of inflation, increased cost of living in Gainesville, and demolition of 2/5 of graduate housing on campus, the current stipend for graduate assistants has become unlivable.
The University of Florida has neglected to hear us, and will not offer a sufficient pay increase.
We need your help! UF cares about the opinions of its undergraduate students. If any of the above statistics surprise you, and you feel something needs to be done, please send an email to UF Provost Joe Glover telling him your concerns!
- 72% of respondents cannot cover all their living expenses (groceries, rent, transportation, utilities, university fees, etc.).
- 50% of respondents have been unable to afford (or had to delay) medical attention.
- 29% of respondents have been unable to buy, or had to delay buying, sufficient groceries to feed themselves and their families.
- 20% of respondents have been unable to buy, or had to delay paying, rent.

"Dear Provost Glover,
As an undergraduate student at University of Florida, I am disappointed in the University’s treatment of its graduate assistants. I depend on my graduate student teachers and have found them immensely useful in my academic career.
I fully support the initiative to raise the minimum yearly stipend to a livable wage.
Signed,"
